Review for the 2015 Garnacha Priorat ...
The grape for the Maquinon Garnacha was sourced from 10-year-old vineyards located from different slopes in and around the village of Falset, D.O.Q Priorat. The Sub-Region is one of ten within the wine region of Catalunya (Catalonia) and is located in the North-East of Spain, near Barcelona. Vineyards are planted on terraced hillsides made up of volcanic soils, known as Llicorella - decomposed slate and quartz.
Tasting Note from Fairley's Wines ...
The Red House Maquinon Garnacha Priorat appears intense ruby red with violet hues, exotic oriental spice mingled with candied red fruit and hints of coffee on the nose. The palate opens full with dried raspberry and cherry fruit, leafy with liquorice and a hint of chocolate, finishing strong with spice, a little oak and even more dried red fruit. An excellent red that should be allowed to breathe 1-2hours and will get even better with age. Best served with grilled red meats and strong cheeses.
