The story begins in 1889, with Joaquin Martinez Bujanda and 5 generations later, Bodegas Valdemar has gone from strength to strength. Over 275 hectares of vineyards and 9 different vineyards, all of which are over 400m above sea-level. The homeland is of course Rioja, covering all three winegrowing areas, with the origins based in Alavesa, La Rioja. Other estates include Fincas Valdemacuco located in Ribera del Dueros and Valdemar Estates in Washington state - USA, Walla Walla wine region.

The wine appears yellow with greenish hues, clear and bright. Expressive green fruit character accompanied by white flower, subtle citrus, with some tropical fruit undertones. The palate is clean and lively with oily green apple, some-what melony with hints of honeydew and banana, finishing dry and floral but extremely cleansing. Consume young and do not overchill. Pair with shellfish, salads and pasta.

The Tinta Fino appears vivid red cherry in colour with well-defined red fruit, subtle cinnamon mingled with clove and a hint of balsamic. The palate is oozing with black cherry, ripe raspberry, fleshy with fine tannins, resulting in a complex aromatic finish with excellent structure. The wine will open beautifully in the glass, if allowed to breathe and will improve even more with age-cellar for 3-5 years. Best served with game, roasts and cold meats.

The wine displays a straw yellow colour with green reflections, clean and bright. Intense aromas of white petals accompanied with concentrated green fruit, subtle stone fruit and nose tingling citrus. The palate is particularly fetching with apricot and peach, zippy lemon and integrated vanilla, finishing balanced with some minerality and clean green apple. An excellent Viura that should be consumed slightly chilled. Cellar 3-4 years and would be best served with shellfish or an aperitif.

The wine is clean, bright and dark garnet in colour with layered red fruit accompanied with creamy vanilla, clove and black pepper nuances. The palate is elegant and expressive with sweet bramble fruit, succulent plum and fetching rich cherry; medium bodied with firm tannins and balanced acidity, earthy with hints of tobacco on the finish. The Gran Reserva has so much potential and requires time to breathe, decant if possible and would be best served with stews, roasts, grilled meats and chorizo sausages.

The result, a spectacular red cherry colour with garnet edges. The nose is complex with red fruit aromas, enhanced with creamy vanilla, sweet spice and cocoa. The palate displays subtle fruit liquor nuances, especially cherry, accompanied with savoury spice, velvety soft tannins, finishing long and textured with sweet black fruit and somewhat smoky. The wine has great aging potential and upon opening allow to breathe and even decant. Best served with grilled meats or oven baked fish.

Chill well and consume young 2-3 years. Best served with a selection of breads, pasta, grilled vegetables and baked fish.

The Crianza appears almost dark garnet in colour, with toffee coated red fruits, violets and vanilla on the nose. The palate is expressive with earthy raspberry fruit, hints of leather but balanced. Bold but yet round, the Baja red lingers on with mocha coated oak and even more fruit. An excellent red that needs a little time to open and would be best served stews, roasts and grilled meats.
