Wine of Origin Stellenbosch

Meerlust Estate was founded in 1756 by Henning Huising and currently the Myburgh Family are eighth generation wine producers. Located in Stellenbosch, the Meerlust Manor – meaning 'pleasure of the sea' lies some 3 miles from False Bay. The Meerlust Rubicon, Merlot and Chardonnay are produced from estate grown grapes and the vineyards receive their water from 2 large Dams, located on the property.

The parcels of fruit for the Stellenbosch Chardonnay were sourced from 4 different estate grown vineyards, planted on Alluvial Dundee, Cartref and Klapmuts Soils, with the youngest vineyard planted in 2010. The parcels of fruit were hand harvested at 5 different stages, allowing different for stages of ripeness. Fermentation was carried out in 50% Allier French Oak and 50% 2nd fill 300lt French barrels.

The parcels of fruit for the 2013 Estate Merlot were hand harvested from estate grown vineyards, planted on Oakleaf, Vilafontes and Klapmuts Soils, with an average age of 23 years. The Vines were green harvested, whereby 40% of the fruit was cut away, allowing full concentration and ripening. The fermentation took place in 300lt Hogsheads, with maturation in 65% New and 35% 2nd fill French Oak Barrels ...

The fruit for the Estate Rubicon 2014 were sourced from estate grown vineyards, with each parcel of fruit harvested in small lots and fermented separately. The Maceration period differed for each grape variety with Malolactic fermentation completed in barrel for a period of 7 months, with a total of 20 months in 65% new French Nevers oak with 35% 2nd fill Nevers and Alliers barrels.
