Syrah 2013 Description ...
The Babich Gimblett Gravels Syrah is produced in New Zealand's North Island, Hawkes Bay region, in the estate owned Irongate Vineyard in Gimblett Gravels. The grapes are harvested Mid-April, gently pressed and passed with skins in contact to stainless steel tanks, the wine is then run off to barrel and aged for 11 months, prior to blending a small portion of Viognier is added.
Fairley's Wines Tasting Note ...
The Syrah appears almost black in colour with fetching dried red fruit, interlaced with sweet scented savoury notes, dark spice and somewhat floral on the nose. The palate opens somewhat closed with raspberry and black plum, locked in with peppery spice, finishing savoury with notes of leather, soft but firm with sweet earthy spice lingering at the end. The Babich Syrah will age well 2-6 years and is a bit young, allow to-breathe 1-2 hours. Best served with steak or antipasto platter of salami.
