Chardonnay 2012 Description ...
The fruit for the Chardonnay is sourced from Babich Irongate Vineyard, in the stony soils of Hawke's Bay southern Gimblett gravels district. The wine district was formed on what used to be part of the Ngaruroro River bed, one of five rivers that form New Zealand's Hawke's bay. The Ngaruroro River Valley has four distinct elevated terraces, Riverview, Crownthorpe, Matapiro and Mangatahi, producing French style Chardonnays of high quality.
Fairley's Wines Tasting Note ...
The Babich Family Estates Gimblett Gravels Chardonnay is distinctly French in style with a new world twist that appears light golden with notes of mineral, ripe stone fruit and underlining French oak. The palate is medium and delicate with white peach and apricot, finishing creamy with minerality, light smoke and notes of lime. An excellent Chardonnay that should not be over chilled and allow to-breathe 1 hour, consume relatively young 2-5 years and would be best consumed with poultry dishes and mild sauces, light Chinese style stir fry, with lemon sauce.
