Pinot Noir 2014 Description ...

The Babich Henderson Valley Vineyard was established by Josip Babich in 1919, adjacent to the Waitakere Ranges. The Henderson valley forms a district within the Auckland wine region, one of six districts. The parcels of fruit were fermented separately in open vats with frequent plunging for gentle extraction of colour and tannin. The wine was then blended and aged for 9 months in French oak barrels.

The Babich East Coast Pinot Noir appears light ruby red and youthful, with aromas of ripe red fruit, hints of spice and underlying black fruit on the nose. The palate is medium with an abundance of red cherry fruit and sweet raspberry, spicy and herbal, finishing textured with great length and fresh black fruit character, silky soft and slight smoky. The 2011 is drinking now and should be allowed to open in the glass. Best consumed with lamb fillets and lightly grilled meats.
