2012 Classico Sangiovese Description ...
The fruit for the DOCG were sourced from the Classico region of Chianti between Siena and Firenze. The region was awarded DOCG status in 1984 and further in 1996 was recognised as a completley independent appellation. The area of Chianti Classico covers 100 square miles between Florence to the north and Siena to the south. Chianti Classico Riserva means that the wine must be aged for a minimum of two years in oak and a further 3 months in bottle.
Fairley's Wines Tasting Note ...
The Riserva appears almost black in colour, with layers of subtle red fruits, violet delicately spiced with hints of tobacco, leather, seasoned oak and slight touch of flint on the nose. The palate is velvety soft with sweet cherry fruit, accompanied ripe red berry fruit, rosemary and figs, finishing full and balanced with firm tannins, elegant and somewhat persistent. An excellent wine that requires time to breathe 1-2hrs with great aging potential 5-10 years. Best consumed with Tuscan cuisine, grilled meat dishes and pasta Bolognese.
