Review for the 2009 Syrah ...
The parcels of fruit for the Matetic Syrah 2009 were hand harvested in early May from two specific areas within the family owned Rosario Valley vineyard, D.O San Antonio Valley. The areas have unique climates and a specific soil type, best suited for Syrah. After fermentation the wine was racked in French oak barrels for 20 months and finally after bottling, stored in the Matetic cellars for 12 months, all before being released to the market.
Fairley's Wines Tasting Note ...
The Syrah appears almost black, with a spectrum of red and black fruits, locked in with violet, warm spicy pepper, dark chocolate, somewhat earthy and a touch of menthol on the nose. The palate is very expressive and elegant, with blackberry and black cherry at the forefront, savoury spice with liquorice and creamy dark chocolate and again the earthy texture comes through, finishing soft and powerful, with prolonged fruit and spice. A truly excellent Syrah with huge aging potential and please decant and allow to breathe 2-3 hours. Best served with lamb, deer or hog and mature cheeses.
