Review for the 2014 Carmenere ...
The fruit for the Corralillo Carmenere were sourced from the hillsides of Apalta, a sub-zone within the D.O Colchagua Valley wine region, Central Valley. The Colchagua valley is one of two sub-regions within the Rapel Valley Wine region, with the Cachapoal valley being the other. The vineyards produce some of the best Carmenere in Chile and are chosen due to the aspect and the different types of terrain. The fruit was macerated and fermented using different methods, before being aged in French oak for 18 months.
Tasting Note from Fairley's Wines ...
Deep violet with red hues in colour, the Carmenere overflows with a mixture of red and black fruits, sweet scented spice, with succulent dark chocolate, all on the defined nose. The palate persistent with an austere of red fruit, cherry, raspberry and plum, all locked in with sweet spice, silky soft with underlying smoked vanilla oak, finishing full and complex with lasting red fruit and even more warm spice. An excellent red that should be allowed to breathe and would be best served with BBQ red meat and mature cheese.
