De Martino Winery was founded in 1934 in Isla de Maipo, Maipo Valley by Pietro De Martino. Now the winery has 3th and 4th generation family members at the helm, some 80 plus years later and produce wines from multiple regions within Chile, from Coquimbo in the north, down through Aconcagua and Central Valley, right the way south to the Itata Valley. The family also grow over 300 hectares of organically certified vines and produce wine from so many different grape varieties, Syrah, Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and sauvignon Blanc to name a few.

The fruit for the De Martino Legado Reserva Carmenere was sourced from two different vineyards in the Maipo Valley, the areas of Isla de Maipo and the foothills of the Coastal Mountain Range. Harvested in late April from 20 and 14 year old vines within central Maipo and Pacific Maipo, the fermented wine is maturated in old French oak barriques for 16 months, before bottling is carried out using recycled glass.

The Legado Syrah displays intense deep tawny with expressive red and black fruit interwoven with warm spice and notes of chocolate. The palate is complex and full with velvety soft cherry and plum, integrated raspberry and blackcurrant with clove and dark chocolate, finishing long with notes of minerality and spicy old oak. The wine is particularly fetching and a personal favourite for some time, allow to breathe and will cellar 5-7 years, getting better and better with time. Excellent with steak or any red meat.
