1983 Vintage Port Description ...
The fruit for the Warre's 1983 Vintage Port was sourced predominantly from two vineyards, Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro Antigo, both located within the Douro Valley's Cima Corgo sub-region. Quinta da Cavadinha was acquired by Warre & Co in 1980 and is located in the Pinhao Valley, in the heart of the Upper Douro. The vines are south-east and east facing at an altitude of between 150-250 meters. The vineyard has an A-Rating, the highest possible quality designation, and all the grapes are harvested by hand, with 30% Vinha Velha, over 30 years old.
Wine Advocate 1989 - Robert Parker - Warre's 1983 Vintage Port ...
"This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop... they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1983 is richly perfumed and fragrant, which is so typical of the ports from this vintage, and is seemingly more forward than normal."
