Glendalough Whiskey | Ireland's First Craft Distillery

Glendalough Whiskey Distillery was founded in 2011 in Glendalough, County Wicklow. The distillery is located near the mouth of the Glendalough Valley, in a small church called Saint Kevin's, on the grounds of a 18th century estate known locally as Glendalough House. Glendalough meaning "the valley of the two lakes" is also home to a medieval monastic settlement, Founded by St Kevin in the 6th Century. The distillery not only produces Irish whiskey, Irish malts whiskey and Seasonal Gin but also has a range of Poitins, finished in different casks. The distillery is also Ireland's first craft distillery and is seated in one of the most beautiful valleys in Ireland.

The Glendalough 13 Year Old Single Malt Irish Whiskey has been double distilled and aged in carefully selected 1st filled Bourbon Barrels. The resulting cask strength double distilled whiskey is then cut with Wicklow Mountain fresh water, offering a heavier small batch single malt whiskey style, rounded and smooth. The nose is deep butterscotch, honeycomb and rich lemon meringue balanced with citrus fruits and just a hint of a clove spice.

The resulting cask strength double distilled whiskey is then cut with Wicklow Mountain fresh water. Rich and sweet, a premium single malt Irish whiskey with a touch of cinnamon and more than a hint of citrus fruits - orange zest and lemon infused with vanilla ice cream.

The Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey is a single grain whiskey, distilled in a Coffey Still using a mash bill of malted barley and corn from a single distillery. The Glendalough Double Barrel has been aged for 42 months in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks for the final 6 months. Slight but undoubtedly rich with dark fruit - cherry, raisin, fig (with Christmas pudding notes on the nose for those lucky enough to know what that is) along with floral lemongrass and a touch of nutmeg.

The Mizunara Oak 13 Year Old has been aged for 12 years in 1st fill American Oak Bourbon Barrels and finish in Japanese Oak Casks for a further 12 months. The Mizunara Casks are made and charred by Japan's oldest cooper, with the oak sourced from the volcanic Island of Hokkaido. The Barrels then travel 6000 miles to County Wicklow in Ireland, where they used on Glendalough Distilleries new look 13 year old single malt Irish whiskey and become the first Irish Distillery to do so.

Irish Poitin (Potcheen) is the first and oldest distilled drink in the world, dating back to 584. The 6th Century has records of Irish Monks distilling Poitin from Malted Barley and Irish sugar Beet. The Glendalough Mountain Strength Poitin is double distilled from both Malted Barley and Irish Sugar Beet and with each small batch then matured in Virgin Irish Oak Casks. The nose is now spicier, with the higher alcohol. Oak, berried fruit, gooseberries still there along with lime zest notes.

The 7 Year Old Black Pitts Single Malt has been double distilled from malted barley and matured in virgin American Bourbon Oak for 6 years and then finish in Porter Barrels for 12 months, sourced from Dublin's 5 Lamps Brewery. Sweet with toffee apples, chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Smooth and warm with dark chocolate orange, cocoa, toffee and cooked fruit, followed by clove and peppery spices.

The Glendalough Poitin is double distilled from both Malted Barley and Irish Sugar Beet and with each small batch then matured in Virgin Irish Oak Casks, sourced locally. The method of distillation is the old style of production which does not use Potatoes and dates back as far as the 6th century, distilled by Irish Monks.The nose is slight in nature with a faint Riesling fragrance. Oak, berried fruit, gooseberries and blackcurrants are in there. A good, heady aroma.

The base ingredients of malted barley and Irish sugar beet are double distilled in a copper pot still and the resulting Poitin is cut with Fresh Wicklow Mountain Water and then matured in Virgin Irish Oak to form the Glendalough Premium Poitin, from here it is passed to ex-sherry casks for a period of time, giving it extra depth and flavour. The nose this time, is a little sweeter and fruitier. A blueberry wine sweetness, and a faint zest of orange peel.

The botanicals used within the Glendalough Wild Autumn Botanical Gin have been sourced locally and contain 8 base and up to 20 wild seasonal botanicals, foraged by hand the day before distillation. Distilled in small batches, the Autumn Gin displays true characters of the season and the surrounding Glendalough Valley. The nose is earthy but floral with underlying heather and blackberries. The taste has incredible depth of flavour, smooth and rounded with a touch of sweetness to the fore.
